Handful Activewear Response to Concern Regarding BPAs

on October 18, 2022

As reported recently in the news, the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) found high levels of the toxic chemical BPA in sports bras.

Handful is dedicated to producing the highest quality activewear for our customers. All of our fabrics and trims are purchased from mills and suppliers who are bluesign® or OEKO-TEX® certified. These are independent verifiers who are committed to reducing the overall footprint of textiles, with a particular focus on the chemicals used.

The materials we use for our bras and leggings, which include recycled polyester and spandex, have all met or surpassed the guidelines and requirements set forth by bluesign® or OEKO-TEX®. Based on communication with these organizations, we are assured our products do not contain substances listed as “restricted” and deemed unhealthy to workers and consumers, including the toxic chemical BPA as reported.

BPA is a banned chemical on our restricted substance list. By using bluesign® and OEKO-TEX® certified suppliers, we are relying on their compliance to remain free of toxicities which is verified by an independent third party.

Thanks for making us aware of this, and thank you even more for your commitment to keep BPA and other harmful chemicals out of the clothes we wear. As a breast cancer survivor (coming up on two years since my diagnosis) and as a runner, I shudder to think of the years (years!!) I spent running in one of the offending brand’s sports bras.
